• Why I Hated Star Trek

On a whim, during my lunch break, I searched (with bing!) for "star trek sucked" and discovered the post Star Trek Sucked from Errata Security. What a relief to discover I'm not the only Star Trek fan who was thoroughly disappointed with this film.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a star trek fanboy, and I would almost not really consider myself a "trekkie". I don't have locks of shatner's hair in my wallet; I just really enjoy the franchise, both the various series (TNG being the best OF COURSE) and films.

Me and my wife started watching TNG a while back, then moved to DS9 and now we're currently finishing Voyager and anticipating Enterprise (and eventually, the original series and films). One thing that has always impressed me about the Star Trek universe is that the ENTIRE RUN, from the original series in the 60s all the way up to Voyager, and even Enterprise, ALL took place within the SAME UNIVERSE, the same timeline.

Sure, there were time travel episodes, alternate-reality ...

  • Blowing Smoke

Let me start by saying I'm not a smoker, at least not of cigarettes (though I haven't smoked anything else in years either)... But I am also not a fan of injustice. And the NY Times article Senate Votes for F.D.A. Rules on Tobacco inspired me to break my attempt to set the world record for longest time spent without updating one's own blog... Thanks a lot NY Times!

Anyway, according to the article, everyone is suddenly discovering that not only is tobacco dangerous, but apparently we the American public are HELPLESS to defend ourselves against it. So after years of legistlation, the Senate finally passes a bill to allow the FDA to regulate tobacco.

What exactly are they going to "regulate"? Tobacco crops to make sure they are run in a santiary fashion? I'd say the flame at the end of the cigarette should be enough to kill anything unsanitary. Except of course, all the chemicals that will eventually kill us but HEY, that's what smoking's all about!

But no, they're not regulating the ...

Speaking of music, I've taken a break this month from Dark Synthesis, and hope to get back on it next month with a promo mix for Night Shift. Our plan is to go monthly all summer long so hopefully that will motivate me to keep pumping out new mixes. Our next event is planned for May 16th, but nothing is solid yet. Stay tuned!...

  • Welcome to McAllen: If you read this... you are gay

Growing up down here in the Rio Grande Valley I've never been much of a "going out" type person. Not so much because I don't enjoy a night out on the town, but rather because, for the longest time, a night out in the valley meant your choice of Eating or Shopping, or if you're feeling especially fiesty, Eating THEN Shopping.

While this is certainly not any less true today (I think we just opened our 2000th Chinese buffet), I was both surprised and pleased to discover that somewhere along the way, a few more entertainment opportunities surfaced, specifically in this case, a monthly comedy show at Cine El Rey. Now, I am a HUGE fan of stand up comedy, and was thrilled at the chance to see a professional comedian like Chris Mata live on stage. Plus, since it was taking place at El Rey, it gave me a chance to check out this new "17th Street Entertainment District" that the area seems intent on selling...

The idea is to create an entertainment beacon ...
